Chris Tucker is the head chef at The Falls restaurant. Growing up in a poor, loving family and an only child, he paid his
way through culinary school. He drives a BMW to match the exterior image of southern refinement and prosperity.
Matt Gallagher is his polar opposite. Born into wealth and raised by a single-father, he possess no inhibitions and
takes what he wants from life with optimism and repose. As a well-known tattoo artist for the Dragon’s Den, Matt’s
gritty finesse reflects his artistic bohemian lifestyle.
I have to say that the title, Love’s Evolution gives clue about the different levels a romantic relationship travels.
During the day life continues but in the evening, or on those lazy weekends, it’s those moments of quiet talking and
passionate embraces that foster compromise and trust, linking two loving people and cementing their souls into one
existence. As the story opens I am introduced to Chris and Matt’s euphoric tender moment s of firsts: initial encounter,
love making, meeting the family, and finally buying a house together. In between they discover each other’s confidences
and fears and the importance of trust and compromise.
I also get a glimpse at how different these two men are, and how those individual qualities nurture their devotion for one
another. At the time Chris is being interviewed by Troy Waters from a local television program, I envision sweetness as
he tolerates the interviewers’ fastidious air, whereas Matt’s spiciness is brusque and direct when confronting the
pompous Mr. Walters about his and Chris’ partnership. As their love blossoms other fears erupt when Chris struggles
with turning forty; fearing his twenty-four year old lover will grow apathetic towards him.
Testing the threads of love that are resilient but still fragile the announcement of their friends’ marriage and Matt’s
snowboarding accident, opens dimensions to their relationship that each privately considered, but never broached.
The tension heightens as these two men dig deeper into themselves, grappling with how far they wish to take their
relationship.
Tender in all places, but scorching in others Ms. Blue writes a charismatic tale of love by way of entertaining and sincere
characters, a powerful story line and tangible life experiences. Love’s Evolution is an excellent contemporary romance
that tucks nicely into my romance collection.
